ROUGH CUTS

Hello and welcome to Songs With A View’s ROUGH CUTS.  While the film is under production we knew you all couldn’t wait that long to sink your teeth into the independent talent we’re cinematically harvesting.  So kindly we’re releasing a series of - you guessed it - “Rough Cuts” for your nigh-on-immediate enjoyment.

Below are the initial edits - mere experiments right now - as and when they’re finished, keep checking the site for updates, or sign our Mailing List for notifications direct to your inbox.

SONGS WITH A VIEW

Songs With A View is an ongoing independent film project conceived by Andrew Bate for Quilt Productions.  It showcases the newest crop of unsigned musicians performing original material in locations that heighten the visceral and compelling nature of live music.  Created as a response to today’s production-indulgent music industry, it bucks the trend of music which is plucked, polished, over-produced, under-crafted and rife with high-tech trickery: each artist has creative control over their contribution to the project, within the following guidelines:

  1. One original song recorded with one microphone in one take

  2. Strictly acoustic - no electronic amplification or instruments whatsoever

  3. Location for the shoot must be a traditionally non-performance space

Within these restrictions artists have given responses that are lo-fi, surreal, hilarious and highly theatrical, while all staying committed to a process that is at its heart organic.  The Songs With A View collective are bringing music back to a place that is, above all, live, and enjoying taking on the challenge of making something that is visually exciting while remaining uncompromisingly honest.
